Lucki’s Cheesecakes & Papa’s Pizza Team-Up to Feed and Clothe the Homeless for the Holiday
Detroit, Mich - Lucki’s Cheesecakes and Papa’s Pizza team up to serve the homeless in our community. Staff and volunteers will provide free meals, hot beverages, clothing items, and more to members of our local community that are in need this holiday season. To further expand the outreach, both businesses will distribute donated items alongside ‘We Are One Community Unity’, a local organization committed to providing hot, nutritious meals to Detroit area residents who require assistance. This effort is intended to meet disadvantaged individuals in areas they may frequent, as a means of decreasing barriers to accessing resources. “Our community has been impacted so greatly by COVID 19, social unrest and economic business collapse this is one way that we can show love for our fellow neighbor during their time of need” said Rhonda Morris CEO, Lucki’s Cheesecake.
The holiday giveaway will take place on Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, 2020, beginning at 8:00 am in Hart Plaza
In 2019, the National Alliance to End Homelessness estimated on average there are over 8,000 homeless people on any given night in the city of Detroit which equates to eight per 10,000 people in the general population. This statistic does not take into account displaced and disenfranchised individuals impacted by the COVID 19 Pandemic. In metro Detroit alone there are not enough beds for the people who needed them as the shelters were already at capacity before the Pandemic hit. “It’s incumbent upon us to do our part, and we are humbled and sincerely grateful to have the opportunity to support our brothers and sisters in their time of need through this holiday season” said Eric Kinaia, COO Papas Pizza.
Lucki’s Cheesecake and Papa’s pizza anticipate distributing over 100 meals, desserts & hot beverages to individuals living in the Hart Plaza area while also providing blankets and winter clothing items to those in need. Meals for the homeless will also include a special donation from Burger Shack. In addition to clothing, volunteers will also distribute PPE to people needing face masks and hand sanitizer.

Lucki’s Cheesecake, a family owned and operated business, was founded in 2005 as the brainchild of then 15-year-old Lucki Word. During Christmas 2005, Lucki was unable to afford a gift for her mother and decided instead to make one of her favorite deserts: cheesecake. Lucki used a cheesecake recipe she learned from her grandfather, and thus, crafted a creation which would forever shape her life! As Lucki’s business began to blossom, her mom Rhonda decided to take the ultimate leap of faith, turning Lucki’s home-based pastime into a brick-and-mortar bakery! Now 15 years and 2 locations later, Lucki’s Cheesecakes has not only changed the lives of both Lucki and Rhonda but has also touched thousands of faithful customers throughout the Metro Detroit area!
